- Apabrahmsha
- A Sanskrit word literally meaning "falling down," it denotes a corrupt form of Prakrit, that is, spoken Sanskrit of the post-Vedic Age. It is believed to have originated in the north-western parts of India. From there it traveled with migrations of people as they scattered and settled in central and western India in the wake of the Hun influx. The Prakrit of Jain texts, some of which were compiled in the medieval times, was heavily influenced by Apabramsha.
